NEW METROPOLITAN IS ENTHRONED On May 11th, 2003, at Saint John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Metropolitanate of New Jersey in Tenafly, His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos was enthroned as the first Metropolitan of the newly elevated Metropolitanate of New Jersey by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America. Hundreds of people were there to celebrate this joyous event, all crying out "AXIOS", which means "He is WORTHY". Among the dignitaries were representatives of the other Orthodox jurisdictions and of other Christian denominations, as well as the Governor of New Jersey, Jim McGreevy. Also present was the General Counsel of Greece, Mr. Platis, and all the Greek Orthodox Clergy from the States of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, which is the administrational territory of the Metropolis, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and representatives of the Parishes. His Eminence Evangelos was enthroned after the official announcement of His All Holiness, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos, to the multitude of the faithful of the Metropolis of New Jersey which was read by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of America, His Grace Bishop Savva of Troas. His Eminence gave His paternal first acceptance speech, which was all theologically reach and inspiring from the Archieratical throne. After the speeches, the service concluded and a reception was given at the Cathedral's Peace Auditorium. All the dignitaries spoke, pictures were taken, and the reception concluded at 11:30 PM. |
